Environmental Stewardship: Difficult Decisions for the Uncertain Future
Presented by Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC) Sea-to-Sky and Vancouver Branches, BC Water and Waste Association, Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions and Pacific Energy Innovation Association
February 28 Forum
SFU Harbour Centre, Vancouver, BC
Many professionals feel that their organizations could participate more effectively in current policy processes, through multi-profession collaboration in providing evidence-based input.
The Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC, the BC Water and Waste Association, the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions, and the Pacific Energy Innovation Association are making a start by convening an Environmental Stewardship Forum on Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 at the SFU Harbour Centre in Vancouver.
By focusing on Difficult Decisions Connecting Energy, Water, Waste and Food, with perspectives from recognized experts and participation by registrants, the aim of the Forum is to accelerate:
• Multi-profession dialogue about difficult issues for achieving harmony between human activity and the environment;
• Ways of focusing the dialogue on decision-making, and advocating options based on evidence.
There is widespread confidence that our civilization can continue, indefinitely, to meet its growing demands for energy, water and food, and continue producing more waste.
• Is such confidence warranted, in view of ever-increasing exploitation of natural resources, population growth, and climate change?
• What changes to business-as-usual are necessary for the confidence to be justified?
The pro-active interaction of professions in communities can contribute to far-sighted solutions by:
• Preparing and communicating multi-dimensional options for resolving complex issues;
• Learning from examples of successful cooperation.
